چکیده

To enable cumulative increases in aquaculture productivity, structured and efficient selective breeding programs are required. These contingent on the management of genetic resources within population though attainment accurate pedigree information which can be provided by DNA-based parentage analysis. This study developed a SNP panel for greenlip abalone, Haliotis laevigata, from DArTSeq data produced audit abalone (n = 336) five farms. The initial dataset consisted 15,320 SNPs. Strict filtering quality control metrics was conducted to select most informative 1,004 SNPs design DArTag™ genotyping abalone. Sixteen broodstock 1035 hatchery progeny were genotyped using panel. resulting genotypes filtered, produce 705 high performing In silico analysis subsets these (highest ranked polymorphic content) revealed that inclusion < 50 satisfactory resolve 10,000 simulated up 200 candidate parents. resolving power also assessed under levels inbreeding (0–50 %) relatedness between parents, conditions missing parental (10–50 silico. Under all inbreeding, simulated, able accurately assign pairs offspring. validate results, 16 both CERVUS APIS. Complete assigned experimental progeny, with 100 % consensus two methods used. indicates this will serve as an cost-effective tool establishment

Ventral Videographic Assessment of the Feeding Behavior of Juvenile Greenlip [haliotis Laevigata (donovan, 1808)] and Hybrid (h. Laevigata3haliotis Rubra) Abalone in Response to Dietary and Temperature Manipulation

This multifactorial study used a newly developed ventral videography technique to investigate the feeding behavior of 18-mo-old juvenile greenlip abalone (21.1 g, 55.6 mm), and hybrid abalone (23.4 g, 57.6 mm) fed either a formulated commercial diet or live Ulva sp. at 18 C and 22 C. Feeding behavior was scored in terms of the following activities: quiescence, alertness, moving, feeding, distan...

Immunological changes in response to herpesvirus infection in abalone Haliotis laevigata and Haliotis rubra hybrids.

Australian abalone production has been affected by outbreaks of abalone viral ganglioneuritis (AVG) caused by a herpesvirus (AbHV). In this study, we undertook experimental transmission trials by immersion to study the abalone immune response to infection with AbHV. Representative cellular and humoural immune parameters of abalone, including total haemocyte count (THC), superoxide anion (SO) an...

Temperature effects on the dynamics of gonad and oocyte development in captive wild - caught blacklip ( Haliotis rubra ) and greenlip ( H . laevigata ) abalone

Wild-caught blacklip (Haliotis rubra) and greenlip (H. laevigata) abalone were held from spent condition at 12oC, 14oC, 16oC or 18oC and routinely sampled to examine gonad development. Descriptors of gross structure included the Visual Gonad Index (VGI) and the Modified Gonad Bulk Index (MGBI). Oocyte Diameter Ratio (ODR) and oocyte volume (based on an ellipsoid) were used as descriptors of ova...

Increased Dietary Protein Improves the Commercial Production of Hybrid Abalone (haliotis Laevigata 3 Haliotis Rubra)

Over the past decade, Australian abalone were produced using a range of commercially formulated grow-out diets with crude protein (CP) levels ranging from 27% to 30% throughout their production cycle. Recent research identified higher optimal dietary CP levels of greater than or equal to 35% for younger than 1-y-old abalone at higher water temperatures (20–22 C). To validate the results of the ...

Vibrio superstes sp. nov., isolated from the gut of Australian abalones Haliotis laevigata and Haliotis rubra.

Five alginolytic, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile bacteria were isolated from the gut of abalones Haliotis laevigata and Haliotis rubra. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rDNA data indicated that these strains are related closely to Vibrio halioticoli (98 % 16S rDNA sequence similarity). DNA-DNA hybridization and fluorescent amplified fragment length polymorphism fingerprinting demonstrate...
